根据密歇根大学的一份研究报告,CAFE 标准正在发挥作用。下图显示了按月度和车型年份划分的平均销量加权每加仑英里数 (MPG)。也就是说,该图显示了根据车辆销量加权的车辆标签上的平均 MPG(城市和高速公路之间)。自 2007 年以来,所有售出汽车的平均 MPG 逐年增加,增加了近 5 MPG。

CAFE,即公司平均燃料经济性,是一项联邦法规,要求汽车制造商提高其车队的燃油经济性,这意味着汽车制造商可以拥有高效和效率不高的汽车(以及具有单独标准的卡车)。但是,只要他们销售足够多的更高效的汽车,他们的车队平均水平就会足够高。近年来,为不同尺寸的汽车设定 MPG 目标的公式变得更加完善,现在取决于车辆的占地面积。

David's academic and professional background includes a unique blend of technology and policy in the field of energy systems. Most recently, David worked at Austin Energy, a Texas municipal utility, implementing a Department of Energy stimulus grant related to energy efficiency. Previously, David was a member of the Energy & Climate Change team at the White House Council on Environmental Quality for the Obama Administration.

David holds two Master's degrees from The University of Texas at Austin in Mechanical Engineering and Public Affairs. While at UT, David was a researcher in the Webber Energy Group, where his research focused on advanced biofuel production to offset petroleum use in the transportation sector. David holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, where he researched nuclear non-proliferation measurement technology.

David is a 2013 Aspen Institute Journalism Scholar, joining a select group of journalists from Slate, ABC News, and The New York Times.
