近 1600 万美国人患有呼吸系统疾病慢性阻塞性肺疾病 (COPD),使其成为美国第六大死因。但本月《牙周病学杂志》上描述的一项新研究结果表明,仅仅更好地呵护牙龈可能有助于 COPD 患者阻止疾病的进展。

来自布法罗大学的口腔生物学家研究了 13,792 名患者的牙龈和肺部。他们发现,患有牙周病的人患 COPD 的风险比牙龈健康的人高出 1.5 倍。此外,肺部问题随着口腔健康状况的下降而恶化。“我们知道 COPD 的发生和进展取决于吸烟,并且反复的细菌感染会使肺部疾病恶化,”团队成员弗兰克·A·斯坎纳皮科说。“牙周细菌有可能通过唾液或正常呼吸进入肺部,并在某种程度上促进肺部感染。另一种可能性是牙周病引起的炎症可能导致肺气道内膜炎症,从而限制了进出肺部的空气量。”
